About Reiki
Dr. Mikao Usui - Founder of the Usui Reiki System
What is Reiki?
Reiki is known to shift one's perspective on life and their role in the world. It causes you to achieve a sense of peace and purpose, which can be highly beneficial to your self-development and realizing your full potential.
Reiki (RAY-kee), is a term consisting of two Japanese words for 'spiritual wisdom' and 'life energy'. It is a gentle and non-invasive healing practice that harnesses the universal life force energy that flows through all of us. This ancient technique promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances the body's natural ability to heal itself.
For both humans and animals Reiki provides a profound sense of peace and well-being, fostering a deeper connection to the world around us. This energy is constantly evolving as more people learn how to use it.
Dr. Mikao Usui conceptualized and taught the Usui lineage of Reiki in the 1920s, and it was brought to the west from Japan in the 1930s by Hawayo Takata. William Rand studied under Mrs. Takata, and founded the International Center for Reiki Training. He developed Holy Fire® Reiki in 2014. Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from a Reiki treatment?
Typically, a treatment lasts from 30 minutes to an hour. You will be fully clothed on a massage table, possibly with a blanket covering you and a pillow under your head. I begin by assessing your aura for issues, and then will place my hands on or over specific areas of the body, usually around the chakras. The hands remain in place for a few minutes on each area, but there is no massage or tissue manipulation involved. At any time during treatment, you could feel tingling, heat or other unusual sensations as the energy moves through your body.
How will I feel after the treatment?
Many clients doze off during treatment and feel relaxed and refreshed afterward. Some clients also experience emotional release, and may have some feelings come to the surface that they were not expecting. Others need a few moments to ground themselves, as they experience some dizziness or lightheadedness after treatment. Plenty of time is provided at the end of the treatment for the client to discuss how they are feeling and regroup if needed. The healing Reiki provides can be quite powerful, and the effects often last for a few days afterward. It's strongly recommended that you rest for the remainder of the day after your treatment, and refrain from consuming alcohol or caffeine as they may disrupt the healing process.
Does Reiki treatment replace the need for medical care?
No. Reiki brings the body into deep relaxation, which is necessary for deep healing, and while it can offer insights into areas where medical attention is required, it is not meant to be used as a replacement for the care provided by a licensed medical professional. However, it is often an excellent complementary treatment to conventional medicine and psychotherapy.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your condition and how you feel after each treatment. I let the client lead the process rather than insist on a specified number of treatments to be administered. You are the best judge of how much, or how little, Reiki you need to heal.
Is Reiki a religion?
No. There is no religious affiliation whatsoever with the practice of Reiki. However, the energy that we work with is often called by many names: Chi, Prana, or the Holy Spirit, to name a few. It is the same source within us all, irrespective of any religions we may follow. Holy Fire® Reiki is unique in that its energy is incredibly gentle, yet highly effective.
Treatable Conditions
Anxiety and depression, chronic pain and disease, unhealthy habits, or trauma from childhood issues and PTSD are the most common ailments Reiki can effectively treat. In addition, Reiki treatments can remove negative attachments, cut cords from unhealthy relationships, and help deflect and heal from emotional attacks.
Anyone just looking to achieve better peace, clarity and inner calm can highly benefit from regular Reiki treatments.
Who can receive Reiki treatment?
Any human, animal, or living thing can receive healing benefits from Reiki. Reiki can also be used to heal events and places where trauma occurred to large numbers of people. You can send Reiki to the past or the future to improve situations for the best possible outcome for all involved.
